Screening for and prevention of high risk behaviors are a critical part of providing high
quality health care for adolescents. Today's newsletter touches on a broad range of health
issues relevant to teenagers.
One prevention program, "Warning Signs," a joint project on youth violence
between the American Psychological Association and MTV appears to be working. The APA's
Practice Directorate has encouraged practitioners to become involved in conducting youth
forums on violence prevention. Below is an article on the success of these efforts and
information on how to obtain a forum planning kit.

Assessing Health Risk Behaviors Among Young People
Risk behaviors include tobacco use, unhealthy diet, inadequate physical activity, alcohol and other drug use, sexual behaviors that may result in HIV infection, other sexually
transmitted diseases, and unintended pregnancies, violence and suicide, and motor vehicle
